SEPTEMBER 28, 2018 – ALITALIA POSTS 3RD QTR PROFIT

Alitalia returns to posting a profit in the 3rd quarter after many years. The July-September results are on track to close with a positive net result of approximately 2 million euros driven by the increase in revenues and the reduction of costs, despite the increase in fuel costs. This result is a signal of a company that is changing its image and that, with 770 million of euros in its coffers, presents itself "a lot more 'interesting for a buyer than it was a year ago” as stated by the Extraordinary Commissioners, who have been managing the company for 17 months.

The good news on the state of the company comes after the meeting of the three commissioners, Luigi Gubitosi, Stefano Paleari and Enrico Laghi, with  the commission of the Transport and Productive Activities of the Chamber. "The third quarter is the first in which Alitalia will close with a very small quarterly profit ", Gubitosi announced: "it’s been a long time since this has happened".

This growth trend was seen already in the first two quarters, in which passenger revenues grew at a rate of + 6/7% compared to the previous year. The positive growth is confirmed to continue in the third quarter, despite the increase in the fuel costs. "Passenger revenues for the quarter are estimated to increase by 7.1% (to 835 million euros), Ebitda is expected to be 87 million euros (from 68 million euros in 2017), with a pre-tax profit of 24 million euros. The cost of leasing has been reduced (and will continue to be reduced in 2019), the cost of labor "is no longer the main problem" and punctuality is at the top among airlines in Europe. And we are noticing "a strong interest in the company by more groups”, rather than the usual political divisions.

In this scenario, the Commissioners intend to meet the approaching deadline of October 31 for the sale procedure (and for which they are working to the benefit of any interested parties).

February 8, 2018 – A MESSAGE FROM FABIO MARIA LAZZERINI, CHIEF COMMERCIAL OFFICER AND REVENUE MANAGEMENT

Dear Partner,

Many are asking me how things are going at Alitalia over the current few weeks. For this reason, I thought to share with you the most significant parts of an interview that Special Commissioner Coordinator, Luigi Gubitosi, has recently released to Italian newspaper Il Messaggero (click here to read the full interview).

“After years of losses, 2017 has approximately registered a 1% growth. Even more relevant though, is the fact that after the 3% jump registered in December, the first quarter of 2018 will witness a 4-5% growth. Thanks to revenues and a more careful cost management, we closed 2017 with EUR807 million still available and a EUR103 million deposit with the IATA. The bridging loan granted by the government is still basically entirely at our disposal. Financial stability allows us to plan the future development: in fact, we are working on next winter”, said Luigi Gubitosi in the interview.

“Besides the financial stability, Alitalia is speeding up also when it comes to operating performance: last year it was the second most punctual airline in Europe and ninth in the world”, added the Commissioner, highlighting that progress has been made also “in baggage reclaim: left-behind baggage has decreased by 15% in one year, registering the best performance since 2009. It is no coincidence that the customer satisfaction is improving, mainly in the long-haul sector”.

These numbers allow us to work with complete confidence and give us the chance to start planning next winter and beyond. However, I would like to stress that these results have been achieved thanks to you, our Partners and to your support . We count on your valuable collaboration in the coming months to keep supporting the growth of Alitalia together!

January 23, 2018 – ALITALIA IMPLEMENTS CODESHARE SEAMLESS AVAILABILITY AND INTERACTIVE SELL WITH DELTA

As of January 23rd , Alitalia has successfully implemented Codeshare Seamless Availability and Interactive Sell with Delta. This is an upgrade to the technology that supports the longstanding Alitalia-Delta codeshare agreement.

Codeshare Seamless Availability provides Alitalia and Delta with real-time/last seat availability information for AZ operated/DL marketed and AZ marketed/DL operated flights. It also gives each airline’s Revenue Management greater inventory control. This technology is already in use for AZ and DL interline flights. Codeshare Interactive Sell provides Alitalia and Delta with real-time/last seat segment sell capability of AZ operated/DL marketed and AZ marketed/DL operated flights, respectively. This new feature will both minimize denied sales and reduce the possibility of overbooking each other’s inventory. It also allows more accurate enforcement of additional Revenue Management policies, maintaining a higher level of revenue integrity.

"We're honored to have won this award yet again and it's hugely gratifying for Alitalia to see how much our passengers appreciate the Italian cuisine we have onboard our flights, famous throughout the world for the quality and variety of its recipes inspired by the different Italian regions", said Fabio Maria Lazzerini Chief Commercial Officer of Alitalia. November 20, 2017: Alitalia certified by Iata for baggage tracking. Italian airline is the first in Europe to obtain certificate for compliance with IATA Resolution 753

Alitalia is the first airline in Europe to obtain the readiness certificate for compliance with IATA Resolution 753 for the airline’s baggage handling operations at Rome Fiumicino hub. The Resolution aims at improving the traceability of checked baggage, ensuring a better service to passengers and further reducing baggage mishandling. The airline has obtained the certificate well in advance considering that Resolution 753 becomes effective within June 2018.

IATA Resolution 753 – with which any IATA member airline will have to be compliant by June 2018 – states that airlines must constantly track checked baggage at key points in the baggage journey: from check-in and loading to the aircraft, to transfer to any other flight (as is the case with transit baggage) or to the arrival, when the baggage is returned to the passenger.

The recognition given to Alitalia today is further evidence that the airline is registering excellent performance at its hub in Rome Fiumicino: on average, in 2017, Alitalia registered a 13 per cent improvement in baggage reclaim times compared to the previous year.

August 7, 2017 - Alitalia: third most punctual airline in Europe according to Flightstats.
Airline placed tenth in the world according to independent US company.

Rome, 7 August 2017 – Alitalia ranked third most punctual airline in Europe and tenth in the world in the first two quarters of 2017, according to the report published by FlightStats (flightstats.com), the US independent data services society specialized in commercial aviation.

According to the chart, 84 per cent of Alitalia flights arrived on schedule from January to June. Flighstats follows the “A14” method, monitoring flights arriving at the gate less than 15 minutes after the scheduled arrival time.

The largest airline in Italy has ranked third in Europe – behind Iberia and Austrian Airlines, with higher scores than the three major European carriers - British Airways (82%), Lufthansa (80%) and Air France (78%) – and the low-cost carrier easyJet (78%). Alitalia has ranked tenth in the world ahead of the main US carriers: Delta Air Lines (82%), American Airlines and United Airlines (80%).

A major improvement compared to the past two years when Alitalia’s arrival performance was 83 per cent in 2016 and 76 per cent in 2015 (the last figure was affected by the incident occurred at Fiumicino on May 7). Since the reopening of Rome Fiumicino Airport’s third runway, which was closed from June to October due to maintenance work, Alitalia’s on time performance ranking has improved markedly.

Alitalia is committed to improve the travel experience for its customers through other initiatives, especially from its hub base at Rome Fiumicino where it has introduced new shuttle buses, new baggage belts and two sets of stairs to quicken the disembarkation from the aircraft and reach the terminal faster.

More ground staff have also been deployed at departure gates to accelerate the passenger boarding process and a new “Transit Team” which features a new uniform with distinctive grey jackets has been launched to help air travellers switch efficiently from one aircraft to another.

THE BEGINNING OF A NEW JOURNEY

Italy is synonym of romance, style, passion and love for life. All elements that have become the inspiration for our brand redesign.

Our aim is to give Italian travelers more reasons to be proud of being Italian and delight foreign travelers on their first encounter with Italy through a renewed and special travel experience.

We have embarked on this journey of change starting from our logo. A restyling that maintains the main features of the original design of 1969, enriching it with new exciting details.

Through a sensitive and respectful design approach we have delicately updated our aircraft livery, preserving its most recognizable elements but ensuring a more stylish, more sophisticated and more sensuous look.

The tailfin has maintained the traditional "A", our iconic mark recognized all over the world, revised in the design details and nuances that make it even more attractive. An elegant soft white adds an allure of style and sophistication to the fuselage, while a refined series of white lines create an image of speed.

On board, our guests will be welcomed in completely renovated cabins.

In our long haul Business Class guests will enjoy an exclusive and luxurious travel experience thanks to full-flat seats covered in rich leathers by Poltrona Frau or relax embraced in the soft blankets and pillows produced by Frette.

In addition, while we continue to offer an elegant Italian dining experience we have now added the "Dine Anytime" option that will allow you to choose when to enjoy your meal.

We are also introducing Wi-Fi connectivity on our long haul aircraft allowing, those who to, access to the internet and always be connected.

Our journey towards change does not end here.

These are only the first steps. We are creating a new, modern and very Italian Alitalia, that will continue to grow and improve its products and services - an upgraded airport experience, new lounges, new uniforms - to provide an always greater experience to our guests.
